Roll on January .
I said after my old team mate Tony Mowbrays dismissal, that one change at the football club would not change our fortunes.
In a nutshell as a squad we are simply not good enough.
Despite Karankas arrival our deficiencies continue to be exposed and exploited.
4 games in under our new saviour, 4 points out of 12 , 6 goals conceded and sitting 4 points off 3rd bottom Yeovil,is not the start the Spaniard would have wanted. Poor defensive errors, late goals conceded and sending offs have been the trend.
Our most damming statistic of all which is 1 win away in 12 months. I reckon I could pick 11 players from the streets of Middlesbrough to win at least 1 away game in a year.Karanka I’m afraid is stuck with what he has got and continues to play square pegs in round holes in the defence.
I am still a bit mythed as to why we only signed Shay Given before the loan window closed. Of course there were rumours that we had missed out on a couple of others. For me that’s all they were rumours. How many times have we been thrown names of possible targets only to be let down.
Bringing Karanka in created a buzz, on the back of that the club made a great gesture, reducing the ticket prices for his home debut against Bolton and the fans responded with just under 25,000 turning up to give him a warm welcome.
For me the icing on the cake would have been to get a couple of new faces in, preferably defenders.
I was delighted with Shay Givens arrival and hopefully we can make him a permanent fixture, as apposed to a loan signing.
I would have to ask the question how many keepers do we want on the pay roll? We have Given, Steele,Leutwiler,Konstantopoulos
that’s not including the young keepers.
With Givens arrival what does that tell you about Leutwiler and Dimi.
We as Boro fans have to now watch our side limp into the January window and hope that the hype surrounding us regarding Karanka,Kenyon and Mendes contacts, provide the necessary quality that we are clearly lacking.
I have got several concerns regarding our new appointment.
He is classed as a head coach, does this mean that the guys above will manage him?
As yet we have not appointed a number two, is that Karanka choice or a collective decision?
Will there be a director of football appointed and finally will there be funds made available?
The last thing that we want at Middlesbrough, is what has happened at Sunderland. De Fanti who is director of football works hand in hand with Margaret Byrne the chief executive, between them they have signed 14 players. That of course was under Paolo Di Canios short reign. Gus Poyet has told Sunderlands hierarchy that he must have the final word on the clubs January transfer signings.
I hope Karanka has done likewise.
In January we will find out if our club means business.
