Middlesbrough 3, Birmingham 1.

Went along to the game yesterday as I didn’t have any radio commitment. I thoroughly enjoyed it.The first half  was fairly balanced and even, but Birmingham edged it with a dodgy penalty decision. When the teams ran out for the second half minus Scott Macdonald,  had my concerns as there were no strikers on the bench, but there was no need to worry as my man of the match Barry Robson took a terrific free kick, which hit the post and went in off the keeper. Both new boys Faris Haroun and Malaury Martin got in on the act. Young Jo Bennet, who was disappointing throughout, set up Harouns goal, Martin created his own bit of magic with an absolute stunner, cutting in from the left and curling the ball with the inside of his right foot from 25 yards which ended up on the postage stamp.

Once again the players showed character coming back from one nil down, they stuck to their principles and kept their shape throughout.

Analysing individual performances Ikeme the goalkeeper for me looked suspect. McMahon gave one hundred and ten percent commitment as always. Bates and Mcmanus looked uncertain at times. Young Jo Bennet I have already mentioned.Williams in midfield just did enough, never over exerted himself, I was looking for more. Arca for me was off the pace of the game. Baileys performances go from strength to strength, playing in that anchor role just in front of the back four. Scott Macdonald in the first half was very good, touch, link up play and awareness was excellent. Emnes was looking to equal my five consecutive goals, in consecutive games from the early ninety’s, I can only recall one shot on target from the inform Dutchman, his touch was average and his link up play was poor. Robson was a constant menace with several good shots at goal, encouraging his team mates and opening boro’s account. Substitute Faris had good movement, took his goal well. Martins looked a class act, good control, good range of passing and a wonder goal.

Still unbeaten this season, well done to Mogga and the lads for the great start, but as a boro fan its important not to get carried away. Lets enjoy the moment.
